OLG Eyeing 'Georgian Triangle' Casino

After a closed-door meeting last week with members of the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp., municipal representatives from Wasaga, Clearview, Collingwood and Springwater made plans to hold a 'public consultation session' with residents in the near future in order to receive feedback on the idea of introducing a casino to the 'Georgian Triangle' area.

A report by simcoe.com explains that the OLG representatives provided an overview of what's involved in bringing a casino to the area, and they also reportedly discussed the economic impacts a casino can have on a region.

The article quoted harness-horse owner/Wasaga Beach Mayor Cal Patterson as saying that he believes the public is interested in having a Wasaga casino, but that the upcoming public consultation session is about "engaging the public and having their concerns, if they have concerns, addressed."

Clearview Mayor Ken Ferguson was quoted as saying, "I can pretty much say we aren't interested in having one (a casino). I can't formally say that though --- we've never voted on it and I'm only one person. Should we vote on it? I don't know."

Collingwood Mayor Sandra Cooper --- who has previously let her uneasiness on the issue be known --- was cited as saying that she thinks a casino in the area is a good addition, and that she "thinks it's great for the region to have one."
