Arrakis Doubles In Preferred

Winter racing at Flamboro Downs

He won in the top class two weeks ago, and on Sunday (Nov. 27) the 10-year-old Federal Flex gelding Arrakis returned to Flamboro Downs to grind a 1:58.3 victory in the $13,000 Preferred Trot.

Leaving from the outermost post in the sextet, Arrakis rolled to race third while 7-5 favourite Power And Grace posted a :28.2 first quarter and :58.2 half. Driver Travis Cullen then lifted Arrakis from the pegs and pushed forward on the rim to edge to a nose lead by three-quarters in 1:27.3. Arrakis remained relentless around the turn and clung to his advantage off the corner as Oh Lina rallied from third over late. The Francis Guillemette-owned and trained trotter maintained control to land a three-quarter-length win over Oh Lina while Power And Grace, with broken equipment, took third and Run Like Hill finished level in fourth.

Arrakis won his 39th race from 247 starts and has now earned $538,170. He paid $11 to win.
