Jacked Cruises In Eventful Autumn Series Prelim

Flamboro Downs racing action

The single division for the Autumn Series Trot second preliminary on Sunday night (Oct. 16) at Flamboro Downs went to Bob McIntosh trainee Jacked in a race which fell into his lap.

After pylon-starter Flo Rider broke stride at the start and then pulled up, Nigel Springwell spurted to a seven-length lead with only three in the field left on stride. But approaching a :58.1 half, Nigel Springwell jumped stride, so Jacked inherited the lead with a circuit to go. Driver Brett MacDonald maintained Jacked’s advantage over The Great Reset to three-quarters in 1:28.1 and extended for home to win by 5-1/4 lengths in 1:58.1. Leading Resolve, after breaking at the start, was elevated to third while Nigel Springwell was disqualified to fourth.

Jacked races for owners and breeders Robert McIntosh Stables Inc., C S X Stables and Dave Boyle. He won his third race from nine starts and has now banked $17,760. As the 1-10 choice, he paid $2.10 to win.

Miss Canada held on to win the faster of the two $8,500 Autumn Series Filly Pace prelims on the card. Driver Anthony Haughan secured the lead with the freshman daughter of State Treasurer and gripped the helm through a clip of :28.2, :58.1 and 1:27.1. Bearing first-over pressure from Academy Seelster, Miss Canada turned away that challenger for home but then had to endure a late push from pocket-sitter Cheddars Delight. The Meg Crone trainee withstood the challenge and kept a head in front at the finish of a 1:58.1 mile while On The Agenda closed for third and Keepingasecret took fourth.

Breeder Claude Gendreau Stable Inc. owns Miss Canada, a three-time winner from 12 tries and earner of $20,225. She paid $3.50 to win.

Getting Euchred delivered as the favourite in the other Autumn Series Filly Pace division. The two-year-old filly by All Bets Off prowled off a second-over trip after sitting fifth to a :29 first quarter. With D A True Love helming the charge up the rim through a :59.3 half and three-quarters in 1:29.2, driver Tyler Borth laid his attack with Getting Euchred on pacesetter Feelin Fancy to the final turn and seized the lead. From there, the Brent Belore trainee kept late-charging Red Sky Tonight at bay by a half length with Mending Fences closing from last for third and Chedda Chedda settling for fourth.

Ronald Thomson owns Getting Euchred, a six-time winner in eight starts and earner of $21,928. She paid $3.90 to win.
