Updated: Scary Spill At The Big M

Multiple horses got tangled up in the stretch drive of Thursday’s second race at the Meadowlands, with trotting filly Bullet Express and driver Brian Sears getting

the worst of it.

Things got dicey when Dances With Dogs, who was challenging first over for driver Steve Smith, made a break and hooked wheels with Leibovitz Hanover (Ron Pierce) shortly after the field turned into the stretch. Both horses got tangled up with one another and caused massive confusion to trailing horses and drivers.

Brian Sears, who was sitting on the rail near the back of the pack with Bullet Express, couldn’t avoid the mix-up and the left wheel of his sulky hooked the wheel on another sulky. He was tossed from the bike and his Bullet Express galloped past the finish line and eventually crashed through the rail on the outside of the track before falling.

Details of the filly’s condition weren’t made available initially, but driver Brian Sears did fulfill his other driving obligations. Trot Insider has been able to contact Campbell since the ordeal, and the horseman was able to provide an update on his charge.

"She's going to be OK," Campbell said. "She was cut on her right shoulder -- not a deep cut. (She suffered) a few small cuts in other places, but nothing serious. All things considering, she got lucky (and sustained) no major injuries."

Trot Insider will continue to post updates regarding the situation when they are made available.

The lens of Lisa Photo captured the spill and shared the following photos with Trot Insider:
