A Brave New World

The world of gaming is changing for a new generation of tech-savvy customers. How can horse racing reinvent the way we wager to meet the demands of the next generation?

At the 2017 World Trotting Conference, speakers Christopher J. Schick of Golden Bear Racing LLC operating Cal Expo Harness, Brad Cummings of EquiLottery, LCC, Chris Lush of the Woodbine Entertainment Group, and Dean Towers of Horseplayers Association of North America will discuss new possible ways to bet on horses. Standardbred Canada’s Darryl Kaplan will moderate the conversation.

The panel will explore new platforms, from fantasy to lotteries, and look at what the sport must do in the future to keep horse betting relevant.

To give some insight on what to expect, Towers shares what his take on this will be. “I will be looking at what millennials are attracted to in the ever-evolving skill-game gambling market, and how harness racing can compete to gain their business,” he said. Towers is hoping the discussion will also cover how the racing business is preparing to compete, and what is and isn’t working as of late. Towers has also said that the sharing of new ideas is important. “[New ideas] are always interesting, because even if they fail to accomplish what they want, the business learns something from it. And that, in my view, is very important.”

This year’s World Trotting Conference will take place in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. All day on August 16, and during the morning of August 17, the symposium portion of the event will feature content and top speakers from Canada, and around the world, to talk about the sport with the symposium branded Investing in the Future.

In Addition to marketing, the World Trotting Conference symposium sessions will also focus on Racing and Wagering, Breeding, and Equine Welfare and Integrity.

Among those confirmed to attend and speak are Hall of Famer John Campbell, PEI native Anthony MacDonald, advertising and marketing expert Angel Suarez and a number of top harness racing executives from around the globe.

This is your chance to visit PEI, engage in valuable and entertaining sessions about the industry, and meet delegates and participants from around the world. After the symposium, you are encouraged to stay on beautiful PEI for the final leg of the World Driving Championship on Friday, August 18, and the Gold Cup & Saucer on Saturday, August 19.

The ticket price of $175 CAD (inclusive of taxes) includes access to all symposium sessions, as well as lunch and coffee breaks on both days at the Delta Prince Edward Island. Space is limited. To purchase tickets, click here.

Tickets will be available for purchase up until Tuesday, August 8 at 12:00 p.m. EDT.
