Marketing In WTC Spotlight

What happens when some of harness racing's brightest minds congregate to pitch ideas to market our sport?

At the 2017 World Trotting Conference Symposium, four top marketing minds will pitch their 10 best ideas. With the timer running, these individuals will present 50 one-minute pitches to change harness racing. The ideas can be big, long-term concepts, or short-term, low-hanging fruit. There are no limits. At the end of the session, members of the Symposium audience will be asked to score their three favourite ideas and the most popular ideas will be revealed at the end of the day.

Trot Magazine editor Darryl Kaplan will moderate the discussion involving Lee Drake of Red Shores, Johan Lindberg of Sweden's Svensk Travsport, Adriana Spatzner of OLG and Edward Rennell of Harness Racing NZ.

Rennell will surely have some ideas on marketing -- as well as other topics -- after recently noting the challenges faced by harness racing in his jurisdiction.

“Like most racing jurisdictions we’re finding it’s very challenging at the moment particularly with the competition and the impact of offshore wagering has had on our handle," Rennell told Trot Insider at the 2016 Inter Conference. "That is something that we are working with the government on and will hopefully have race field legislation and in the next year that will address and provide some additional income for the industry.”

This year’s World Trotting Conference will take place in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. All day on August 16th, and during the morning of August 17th, the symposium portion of the event will feature content and top speakers from Canada, and around the world, to talk about the sport with the Symposium branded Investing in the Future.

In addtion to Marketing, the World Trotting Conference Symposium sessions will focus on Racing and Wagering, Breeding and Equine Welfare and Integrity. Among those confirmed to attend and speak: Hall of Famer John Campbell, PEI native Anthony MacDonald, advertising and marketing expert Angel Suarez and a number of top harness racing executives from around the globe.

This is your chance to visit PEI, engage in valuable and entertaining sessions about the industry, and meet delegates and participants from around the world. After the Symposium, you are encouraged to stay in beautiful PEI for the final leg of the World Driving Championship on Friday, August 18th, and the Gold Cup & Saucer on Saturday, August 19th.

The ticket price of $175 CAD (inclusive of taxes) includes access to all Symposium sessions, as well as lunch and coffee breaks on both days at the Delta Prince Edward Island. Space is limited. To purchase tickets, click here.
