Top racehorse and prolific sire A Go Go Lauxmont was euthanized Thursday, August 29 at the age of 28 as a result of colic.
Campaigned by Don Leblanc, A Go Go Lauxmont was a force in Ontario Sires Stakes among a tough crop of horses that included the speedy Nero Domarr and future Hall of Famer No Sex Please. The son of Balanced Image - Lauxmont Au Fait retired from racing after sustaining a leg injury early in his four-year-old year.
A Go Go Lauxmont posted 17 wins in 36 lifetime starts -- 12 of those in the OSS -- with earnings of $299,881, and took a record of 1:54.3 in a time trial at The Red Mile, making him one of the first Ontario-sired trotters to achieve a sub-1:55 trotting record at a time that Ontario's circuit was solely composed of half-mile and five-eighths mile tracks. While he raced primarily against OSS competition, A Go Go Lauxmont stepped up against Grand Circuit foes in the 1988 Canadian Trotting Classic, finishing a valiant head behind eventual Hambletonian and divisional champion Armbro Goal.
As a sire, A Go Go Lauxmont started out in Ontario before moving state-side. He sired 584 horses, 321 of which were starters, with offspring banking more than $15 million lifetime. His most notable performer was the iron-tough Open class trotter Arva Crest Ago Go (1:54.3, $826,173) while also making his mark as a broodmare sire, siring the dam of current stallion Broadway Hall.
