Hanover All Set For Saturday

Published: September 2, 2015 01:08 pm EDT

Hanover Raceway will play host to five divisions of three-year-old trotting fillies in the Ontario Sires Stakes this Saturday night.

Among those taking part are six of the top 10 horses in the OSS Grassroots standings, and several with local connections. They’ll all be trying to gather points to qualify for the season-ending OSS Grassroots Championship.

Among those set to take part are two owned by the Henry Stables, of Arthur, Ont. Wing Flash won her first start in the three-year-old OSS program at Dresden Raceway in 1:58.2, but has struggled at Mohawk in her recent starts. Pointe Of Inquiry, however, won at Mohawk on August 10 in 1:57.1.

Jeff and Lori Thomson of Chesley own Renegade Magic, who leads the OSS Grassroots standings with three wins and a second-place effort in four starts. The daughter of Kadabra has earned over $43,000 already this season.

Julie Walker and JB Renaud own Tymal Fireitup, who has a third and fourth-place finish so far and will need a good finish in order to move up the Grassroots points standings.

Fans that purchase their program at the kiosk this Saturday starting at 6 p.m. will get a choice of an OSS t-shirt or OSS hat (while supplies last).

Hanover Raceway will feature a live band on Saturday, as Craig Dougan from the Almost Hip will be playing some classic Tragically Hip songs, as well as some of his originals from his first two CDs.

Saturday is also CKNX Night at the Races. The staff will be on hand to help with swag prizing, and one lucky fan will win a 50-inch Smart TV package from HDTV in Hanover and Walkerton.

Live racing will kick off with a 7:15 p.m. first-race post time.
