Red Shores has an action-packed weekend of harness racing which is now all set to go forward. PEI Colt Stakes will be on tap Saturday at the Charlottetown Driving Park, which will play host to both an afternoon and evening program. Summerside Raceway will present a full card on Sunday.

There are many headlines surrounding Red Shores’ Saturday CDP races, as the PEI Colt Stakes – which is now in its 81st year – will carry on as being one of the longest-running programs in Canada. The two-year-old fillies will get called to the starter first (in Race 2 on the afternoon card), and Brookdale Liz has been labelled as the morning line favourite for Nova Scotia driver Bernard McCallum. The filly will go up against JJ Larissa, who is owned by Jamie MacKinley, Clyde River and Jody Sanderson, Doha, QT. The colts will be up next (in Race 3) and top gun Jackson K Down will be looking for the seventh win of his campaign for Gilles Barrieau and the Downey Stables of Quispamsis, NB. Dixie Lullaby, Heart And Soul and K D Overdrive will put their streaks on the line in their respective divisions.

West River Ambyr, Elm Grove Kaboom and Hart Of Windemere are favoured to win their respective races.

As for the evening program of racing, stakes stars will do battle in Race 2. Ultimatelyhandsome will be looking for the top prize, but the must-see event of the weekend has been carded as Race 5. The showdown will see Proven Desire, who set a track record of 1:55 at Northside Downs for Marc Campbell, line up against Dixieland Band for trainer Kevin MacLean and Barrieau. Proven Desire will start from Post 1. The PEI Colt Stakes hardware will also be presented in Races 3, 6, 8,9 and 11.

Two divisions of the Atlantic Aged Mares Pacing Series are also in the spotlight. Ramblinglily is back in town and is riding a six-race win streak in Race 12. Walter Cheverie will do the driving for trainer Allan Jones. Best Risque, owned by Lillian, Kevin and Brian Ladner, is the classifier’s choice in her division (Race 7).

Cool One has gotten the top call in the MacPhee Memorial Pace (Race 10) for driver Gordie Hennessey, trainer Shelley Hennessey and her co-owner, Denise Andrew.
