John Sylvia Passes

John ‘Jack’ Joseph Sylvia, 80, passed away at his home surrounded by the comfort of his loving family on September 12.

He was the son of the late Stephen and Mary (Daler) Sylvia and husband of the late Rhoda Sylvia (Ackerman). He was the son-in-law of the late Harness Hall of Famer Townsend Ackerman.

Sylvia was born in Foxborough on April 14, 1934 and was a graduate of Foxborough High School, Class of 1952. He was a graduate of Coyne Electrical School of Boston. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He and his wife, Christine, were married in Hyde Park on October 19, 1985.

Sylvia was an owner, trainer and driver of Standardbreds for more than 50 years, campaigning at tracks throughout the northeast.

He was a member of the Benevolent Order of Elks, Lodge #1011 of North Attleboro.

Sylvia is survived by his sister, Anna Kimble; wife, Christine (Gustowski); children, Jean Sharpe and James; granddaughter, Natalie Sharpe; niece, Mary Alice Kimble Houghtaling; and nephew, Michael Kimble.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend calling hours on Wednesday (September 17) from 4-7 p.m. at the Roberts and Sons Funeral Home, 30 South Street, Foxborough. A memorial service will take place at the conclusion of calling hours at the funeral home. For additional information, please contact 508.543.5471.
