George Braybrook Passes

Trot Insider has learned that owner/breeder/horseman George Braybrook of Virden, Manitoba passed away on September 7 at the age of 89

.

George and late wife, Phyllis, raced horses on the Manitoba circuit after having retired from farming. His most remembered horse was Cindy Ann Byrds, a very difficult mare that had a lot of personality. She raced well for him and later produced some tough racehorses.

After his return from the war service, George started racing with the Mooney family, from the Wawanesa area, in the '50s. George was brother to Gerald Braybrook of Virden, a longtime racer, and uncle to Clayton Braybrook, who is currently racing in Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

A funeral service is set for Friday, September 16 at 1:00 p.m. in the Carscadden Funeral Home in Virden, Man.

Sorry to hear of the passing of Mr. George Braybrook - he would have been an interesting person to talk to about horses, sounds like he had a great deal of practical experience, and, possessed a great deal of knowledge about horses.

His claim to fame was certainly a challenge, but as he could see a certain degree of potential there, it worked out well.
(Would George Braybrook happen to be, in any way, related to a Mr. Frank Braybrook who resided in Petrolia, Ontario?) It's not a very common name.

YES, there was also a Race Track in Petrolia, once upon a time!

I extend my condolences to your family and friends.
