Looking for a great way to spend a fall Saturday morning? The ILCHR Fan Club is inviting members to a tour of Ideal Training Centre, located just outside of Acton, Ontario, on Saturday, September 20 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Owned by Mac and Carol Nichol, of Burlington, Ontario, and managed by George and Marcia Peters, Ideal is home to many of Ontario’s top trainers and horses, including two time O’Brien Award winner, Mister Herbie.
There will be a walking tour of the facility, a visit to some of the stables with time to talk to a number of the trainers, a blacksmith demonstration and a session on horse health with a local veterinarian.
Here is the agenda for the event:

10:15 – 11:00 a.m. - Stable visits – Jeff Gillis, Corey Johnson, Anthony Montini

11:15 a.m. - Blacksmith session

In July 2008, the Nichols enthusiastically took over an existing Standardbred Horse training centre. They upgraded the training centre to provide a first class facility and safe and enjoyable atmosphere for the equine athletes and horsemen.
Nestled in the town of Erin in Wellington County, just seven minutes north of Acton on Hwy. 25, on a beautifully landscaped and well maintained 50 acre property, ITC has great access to all major tracks in Ontario.
The training centre, named for the Nichol’s World Champion horse American Ideal, includes three barns with a total of 123 stalls, 31 generous sized paddocks, a covered eight-horse exerciser and a six-horse exerciser. Blacksmith and Operations Managers are on-site along with numerous on-call Veterinarians. The five-eighths mile training track has sweeping turns.
A BBQ lunch is included. The cost of the event is $10 (to cover the cost of lunch) and includes a Fan Club souvenir. There are a limited number of spots, and you must be over the age of 18 to take part.
