Margaret 'Peggy' Rankin Passes

The Matriarch of one of Canada's most well-known standardbred racing families, Margaret 'Peggy' Rankin passed away Thursday, August, 27 at the Northside General Hospital in North Sydney, NS at the age of 90

.

Peggy is the wife of the late Donald Rankin, who passed away in 2002.

She is survived by sons, Doug 'Sonny', Sydney, Callie (Brenda), Dundas, Ontario, Donnie (Joan), Windsor, Ontario; and daughters Theresa (Albert) MacMaster, Halifax, Donna Rankin Neville, Balls Creek, Darlene (Rick) Costello, Beechmont, Mary Lou Rankin Denton, Balls Creek. She is also survived by her grandchildren Colin, John (Lori), Cathy and Debra Rankin, Glen (Linda) Rankin and Tracey (Steve) MacAlister, Ryan and Rhea MacMaster, James and Margaret Neville, Jeanette (Todd), Jennifer, Amber and Lindsay (Tom) Rankin, Josh Costello and Jesse, Kaleigh and Rankin Denton and 14 great grandchildren, as well as brother Rannie (Marie) MacDonald, Long Point and many nieces and nephews.

In 1997, Peggy was the first woman inducted into the Cape Breton Horsemen Association Hall of Fame (1997).

Visitation will be held Saturday, August 29 from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. and Sunday, August 30 from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 30 at St. Mary's Church, Frenchvale with Fr. Paul Abbass officiating.

Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Peggy’s memory can be made to St. Mary's Church, Frenchvale.
