Juvenile To Face Much Older Company

This Saturday in Ontario, a two-year-old will face off against a field of entirely older competitors, complete with a six-year-old and a pair of five-year-olds.

Art Instructor, a well bred two-year-old pacing filly from the Murray Brethour stable, has drawn Post 5 for Kawartha Downs’ second race this Saturday. Brethour is scheduled to be in the bike behind his pupil, and the duo has been installed as the 7-2 third choice on the morning line.

Art Instructor made her first lifetime starts at Kawartha Downs earlier this summer. Brethour qualified the daughter of Art Major at the Fraserville oval twice before she made her racing debut at Georgian Downs.

Since that time she’s made three starts, one at Mohawk Racetrack and two at Georgian Downs – she won her most recent outing at the latter track in 1:57. Brethour shares ownership of the filly with Kevin McKinlay of Holland Landing, Ont. and Doug Millard of Woodstock, Ont., who also bred the filly with Spring Haven Farm of Ohio.

Art Instructor is a full sister to Art Professor, a winner of more than $609,000 during his racing career for trainer Ben Wallace. Art Professor has now been retired and is standing stud in England.

Art Instructor is the only two-year-old in the Saturday field, which also includes likely favourite State News, a three-year-old son of Mach Three who has made three lifetime starts, all at Kawartha, and won two and finished second by a neck in the other.

The action at Kawartha on Saturday night will get underway at 7 p.m.
