The Ontario Racing Commission’s Horse Improvement Program has released the 2012 Mare Enrolment form for the Ontario Resident Mare Program

. The form is being made available before publication of the 2012 Program criteria to allow mare owners to enrol mares at least 180 days prior to January 1, 2012, the earliest possible foaling date for 2012 foals.

The Mare Enrolment form and all fees must be received by Standardbred Canada before the mare foals in 2012. The date upon which the form is received by Standardbred Canada will be recorded as the first day of the mare’s Ontario residency period. Mare owners must apply annually to acquire Ontario Resident Mare status for mares in foal.

To qualify as an Ontario Resident Mare, a mare must be resident in the province of Ontario at the time of enrolment and remain resident in the province of Ontario for 180 consecutive days surrounding the date of foaling in Ontario. Offspring of Ontario Resident Mares will be eligible for Ontario bred status. The breeder, owner or lessee who enrols the mare in the Ontario Resident Mare program will be eligible for rewards attached to the OSS racing program and selected “Open” stakes races in Ontario. Open stakes eligible for Breeders Awards are published annually by the Program.

2012 Mare Enrolment forms are currently available on the Ontario Racing Commission website (available by clicking here). Program criteria and all other Program forms required for 2012 will be available for access in late 2011 from the Featured Showcase section on the home page of the Ontario Racing Commission website.
