Hanover Raceway Holding Heritage Day

Eight horsemen and builders and one horse will be honoured on Saturday during Hanover Raceway’s 12-race card, as the track will be holding its first Heritage Day

.

The horsemen include Lloyd Wagner, Jake 'Sonny' Geisel, and Elmer Fritz, the father of Hall of Famer Bud Fritz.

Builders including former Hanover Raceway GM Philip 'Bas' Conlin, Ab Fleishauer, Emerson Emke, Allan Wedow, and Merv Knapp.

In the horse category, Hanover Raceway will pay tribute to the late Silver Reign, who is being inducted into the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame this month. Silver Reign was owned and bred by Eugene Forbes of Walkerton, Ont. and trained and driven by fellow Walkerton resident Bud Fritz.

The Hanover program will include bios on the honourees, as well as pictures and tidbits from Hanover’s history.

There will also be a huge display, including pictures, newspaper and magazine articles, as well as three historic race bikes and jog carts.

First-race post time is 7:15p.m., and the first 250 patrons to purchase a program will receive a Hanover Raceway t-shirt, courtesy of Hanover Raceway and OHHA.
