Industry Day Contest Winners

Grand River hosted another successful Industry Day, with a card of great racing, fun for the whole family and (mostly) cooperative weather. In conjunction with last Monday’s big event, the I Love Canadian Harness Racing Fan Club ran two contests.

The Industry Day Online Handicapping Challenge asked Fan Club members to answer a variety of questions that pertained to the card. Though Win The Gold’s upset victory wreaked havoc on some of our handicappers’ carefully picked selections, the challenge concluded with a four-way tie.

Jennifer Lidstone of Oyster Bed, PEI, was randomly drawn from the four, scoring fifteen out of twenty possible points. Though she has spent many years interested in racing, she is still learning from her husband, who has worked in the industry for most of his life. The pair work together on handicapping challenges, enjoying the opportunity to collaborate.

Here are Jennifer’s selections:

  • Select the winner of the Battle of Waterloo (5 points) GO DADDY GO

  • Will the final time of the 2014 Battle of Waterloo be over, under, or on the time of 2012 winner Tarpon Hanover (1:53) (2 points) OVER- time for the mile was 1:55

  • Select the winner of the Battle of the Belles Final (5 points) CAPELA (finished third)

  • Select the leading money-winning Ontario sire for the day’s races (3 points) SPORTSWRITER (horses sired by Sportswriter won $228,548)

  • Which driver will win the most purse money from his/her drives on Industry Day? (5 points) JOHN CAMPBELL (John Campbell drove horses to $128,030 in purse earnings)

  • All of the above answers are correct except the winner of the Battle of the Belles which was won by Win The Gold.

In the Fan Club’s second Industry Day contest held on track at Grand River, we asked those trackside to select the winner of the Battle of Waterloo.

John Campbell and Bob McIntosh trainee Go Daddy Go claimed victory in 1:55 in the Battle of Waterloo final. Bonnie Brumwell of Moorefield, Ontario had a feeling about the chestnut colt and was one of a handful of people to select him as the 2014 Battle champion.

Congratulations to our winners Jennifer and Bonnie, who will each receive fabulous Fan Club prize packages!
