Narragansett Looks To Repeat At CDP

Seven rivals will try to knock off Narragansett in the Thursday night feature at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

Jason Hughes will drive Narragansett, who he also trains, for owner Foxyhall Racing of Wallace, Nova Scotia. The $2,000 tilt has Narragansett departing from post four fresh off a 1:56 victory July 1 in Summerside, which was enough for race analyst Les MacIsaac to give the pacer the nod for top spot.

“(Narragansett) came first up at the half in Summerside and still left seven rivals in the dust in what just happens to be the fastest win time on the page this year,” He said. “Off a performance like that it will take a big effort from one of his rivals to prevent a repeat.”

Narragansett’s main challenges will come from post five starter Van Zant (Ron Matheson) and post six starter Nobestbfor (Walter Cheverie). Other entries include Pinner (Marc Campbell), Shock The Rock (Corey MacPherson), Panacotta (Blaine Baglole), First Art Down (Ken Murphy) and Windemere Express (Brodie MacPhee).

The Island’s top trotters butt heads in the race six Open Trot with a field of seven chasing a $1,850 purse. Abundaspin is favoured to win after his 2:00.1 victory last Thursday in Charlottetown for trainer-driver Harold Shepherd and owner Mikaela Lustic of Cornwall. The 14-year-old trotter has post four as he continues his retirement year with six wins to date.

He will battle with previous Open Trot winners Pleasure Girls (MacPherson), Zip The Lip (Brian MacPhee) and Caliban Hanover (Ron Gass) as well as other entries Lyrical Lindy (Hughes), Tymal Tyme (Brodie MacPhee), and Diamond Mine (Willie Murphy).
