Hanover Raceway is extending the deadline for applications to its Ontario Harness Horse Association Youth Camp

.

The camp is for children aged 10-14 that want to learn more about caring for horses. Eight youths will care for four horses for three days in the Hanover Raceway backstretch. The youths will end their week with a pizza party and participate in a live race in front of the Hanover Raceway crowd on Saturday, August 6.

Only a few spots remain. Anyone interested in taking part is asked to write an essay entitled 'Why I want to drive a standardbred race horse' and submit it by July 16 to Hanover Raceway, 265 5th Street, Hanover, ON N4N 3X3.

Those selected will work in pairs caring for a racehorse for three days in the Hanover backstretch, including grooming and jogging. Those attending will learn about nutrition, care, veterinary work, and blacksmithing from professionals.
