'Big M' Gearing Up For Big Weekend

Published: July 4, 2018 03:28 pm EDT

The Meadowlands Racetrack’s grand circuit meet of champions will hit full stride this weekend, as no fewer than 15 stakes are set to be contested throughout 27 races over Friday and Saturday.

The track is advising fans and handicappers that the Saturday post time will be at 6:35 p.m.

Friday's races will be filled with freshmen, as both the second leg of the New Jersey Sire Stakes and the first leg of the 2018 Kindergarten Classic series will comprise 10 of the 15 races (fourteen on the pari-mutuel card and the NJSS two-year-old colt pace will be a non-wagering event that will be contested at 6:15 p.m.).

The NJSS trots again hold promise of what the future may bring to those whom invested in first-crop sires Father Patrick and Trixton. Both are well represented in the NJSS, and Father Patrick drew first blood by sweeping all four of last week's Leg 1 divisions.

In the Kindergarten pacing races, Captaintreacherous' first crop is well represented, as 12 of the 28 entered are by the young sire.

Saturday's card is the power-packed Meadowlands Pace elimination program. Fifteen horses have been split into a pair of $50,000 elims. The $700,000 final will be contested on July 14.

Supporting the ‘Pace’ races will be the $250,000 Graduate Series finals on the trot and pace – both of which are filled to the brim with 10 competitive entrants – and the $66,000 Mary Reynolds, where sophomore filly trotters will vie for the title.

Saturday will be Fan Appreciation Day. There will be discounted concessions and fireworks after the races. Saturday will also see the first annual Wiener Dog races take place for fun and prizes. All of the guaranteed wagering opportunities will also be on tap, including the Super Hi-5 Jackpot carryover, which is currently at $272,052.
