Megan Byrd Passes

Megan Gay (nee Preston) Byrd, 52, passed away on July 22, 2014, after a valiant battle with leukemia.

She was born May 9, 1962, in Columbus, Ohio, but lived most of her life in Delaware County. She graduated from Buckeye Valley High School and the Agricultural Technical Institute of The Ohio State University.

A lifelong lover of animals, Byrd raised and cared for many animals, fostering Pilot Dogs for the blind, numerous cats, and dogs, but mostly grooming Standardbreds. She and husband Glenn were successful trainers and were training horses for a large Canadian farm when she was struck with leukemia.

She is survived by her husband, Glenn; daughter, Brittney; parents, Joe and Sue Ann Preston; sisters, Laurie (John) Haas and Anne (Charles) Whalley; brother, Joel (Stacey) Preston; and many nieces and great-nieces. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Arlyn and Neva Violet and Mont and Georgia Preston; and her father-in-law, Art Byrd.

The family will receive friends at Snyder-Rodman Funeral Center, 1510 W. William St. at Valleyside Drive, Delaware, from 12 noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday (July 26). A memorial service to be officiated by Jeff Acker will follow at 2 p.m. Committal will be at the Thompson Township Cemetery, Delaware County.

Memorial contributions may be made to your local Humane Society, any service animal organization (i.e. Pilot Dogs), or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
