Governor's Plate Finalists To Clash

A pair of Governor's Plate finalists will go head-to-head in the Saturday night feature at Red Shores’ Charlottetown Driving Park.

The track’s program of live racing will get underway at 6 p.m.

Narragansett has drawn the pole position in the Race 11 feature for owner Foxyhall Racing of Wallace, NS. He is one of two entries from last week’s ‘Plate’ final that will be taking part in the Preferred Pace. Trainer Jason Hughes will hand the lines back to Corey MacPherson this week. Hughes, Charlottetown's leading driver, has prior driving commitments at Truro Raceway on Saturday night.

The other Plate finalist, Machinthesand, has drawn Post 4 for Russell and Karen Noonan of Middleton, PE. Brodie MacPhee will be back in the bike for trainer Mark Bradley.

An old face will return to the CDP in the feature: former Gold Cup and Saucer starter Pacific Oak will start from Post 6 for Shirley and Kerry House of Ontario. Anthony Stymest is the new trainer and Ken Murphy will drive. Balanchine (Post 2), Eagle Jolt (Post 3), Windfall Blue Chip (Post 5) and Cheyenne Ford (Post 7) will complete the field.

Three-year-old filly Willow Warrior will look to extend her win streak to three races for owner Alby Curran, trainer Brendan Curran and driver Mark Bradley. It won't be easy for the filly that hasn't missed a top-two finish this season. She has drawn Post 3 in the evening’s finale.

Sterling Seelster (Post 1) will look to get back to his winning ways. The grey gelding has been listed as the morning line favourite. He shows consistent miles in the 1:57 range for owner Marie Cameron of Summerside. Walter Cheverie has picked up the catch-driving call from trainer Doug MacGregor.

Charlottetown kingpin Marc Campbell has accepted the drive on the two-entry J V S Ring over Sterling Seelster. Fresh off a three-length victory in 1:58.3, J V S Ring is one of Campbell's 11 drives on the 12-dash card.

Three Cindy MacDonald trainees will line up behind the gate in the Race 4 trot. Veteran trotter Saulsbrook Balance will lead the trio from the rail. A winner of 44 lifetime wins, he will be handled by Willie Murphy for co-owners MacDonald and Tanya MacKinnon. Right next door is Diamond Mine (Post 2). Young gun Jack Panting will do the driving for the same connections. The third member of the team has drawn the outside Post 6. Tymal Tyme, owned by Tessa Mackinnon, will get Brian MacPhee above the wheels. Duchess Ofnormanby (K. Murphy), J K Queen (Walter Cheverie) and Howmacs Pride (Campbell) round out the compact field.
