Lichty Wins Handicapping Challenge

Congratulations to Brad Lichty of Elmira, Ontario, who scored 15 out of 20 possible points in the I Love Canadian Harness Racing Fan Club’s CBC-MLT Online Handicapping Contest.

This was the highest score from the 200+ entrants and enabled him to claim victory in the contest. Finishing two points ahead of his nearest competitors, Lichty, a long-time handicapping competition participant, was glued to HPI TV for Saturday’s exciting card.

Lichty has been a trackside regular since the age of five, before working in the mutuels then becoming paddock judge at Elmira Raceway. Racing holds a special place in his heart, as he met his wife (Corinne) at the track and the pair have owned many horses over the years.

A Grand River regular, Lichty works as a Warehouse/Logistics Manager for Boshart Industries and likes to head out for some golfing and fishing when he has time. Both he and Corinne were past competitors in different editions of the TROT Canada National Handicapping Championship. Lichty was the winner of the Geek Squad Spring Championship at Grand River in 2008, which gave him and Corrine the opportunity to see his favourite racing event in person as the Grand Prize was a trip to The Little Brown Jug.

Here are Brad’s selections for Saturday night’s card:

Keep an eye out for upcoming handicapping competitions! We’ve got two lined up in August – one for Grand River’s Industry Day and one for the National Driving Championship!

The Fan Club also ran a contest on Saturday night at Mohawk Racetrack where fans were asked to select the winner of Maple Leaf Trot. Only a handful of people selected Intimidate as the winner and Steve Bradley of Guelph, Ontario was declared the prize winner in the random draw.

“To be honest, I picked him because I like the name. He’s got a good history; the weather was giving longshots a chance.”

A Mohawk regular, Bradley is, as he calls it, “a two dollar bettor”. He believes being trackside provides five hours of great entertainment for less than twenty bucks.

Steve’s selection earned him a Fan Club prize pack, congratulations Steve!
