Karen Flahven-Armitage Passes

Trot Insider has learned that standardbred racehorse owner Karen Flahven-Armitage, wife of former Canadian Trotting Association and Canadian Standardbred Horse Society President Dr. Roland 'Roly' Armitage, passed away Monday, July 22 after a long illness. She was 64.

At Karen's request, there will be no church service held. Karen repeatedly stated that "We come from the earth and we shall return to the earth."

Karen is the mother of Ryan (Nav-Can) Christine, and the grandmother of Rachel, stepmother of Mick Armitage (Mick Armitage Band and DND), Donald (City of Ottawa, horse trainer, owner and driver) Glenda, Blake (deceased), Ann Webster (Bob). Among her many friends were Brenda Dickson, Mary Nelson and Juanita Snelgrove.

There will be a private family burial held on Friday (July 26) at St. Mary's Cemetery, Pinhey's Point, Dunrobin. A public celebration of Karen's life will be held on Sunday, July 28 at the City of Ottawa, Kinburn Township offices, in the Dr. Roly Armitage Hall at 5670 Carp Rd., at Kinburn Side Rd., from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Please dress casually. Live music will be performed, and refreshments will be served. At Karen's request, no flowers please.
