Island Match-Up To Be Rekindled

A Governor’s Plate Night rivalry will be renewed Thursday evening (July 21) at Red Shores’ Charlottetown Driving Park, and Bazillion wants to settle the score.

Bazillion, a Trevor Hicken trainee, has drawn Post 3 in the $2,200 featured event, which has been scheduled as Race 11.

Bazillion will have Brian MacPhee back in the bike for owner Kent Livingston of Cornwall. Bazillion finished third last Saturday during Governor’s Plate Night action at Red Shores’ Summerside Raceway.

The six-year-old son of Village Jolt did all of the front-end roadwork in his last start, but gave way to Smiley Bayama down the stretch in what was a scorching 1:55 mile. With an inside post and Smiley Bayama starting on his outside, the score could be settled Thursday. Smiley Bayama will start from Post 6. Adam Merner is scheduled to be in the bike for trainer Ron Gass and owners Shelley and Alexis Gass, of Cornwall. Smiley Bayama is currently riding a three-race win streak.

Other entries include My Lucky Killean (to be driven by Ken Murphy), Whosurwinner (Mike McGuigan), Nogreatmischief (Walter Cheverie), Tempo Seelster (Todd Walsh), and Perfect Escape (Ron Matheson).

The $1,950 Open Trot (Race 6) will prove to be a career opportunity for 18-year-old reinsman Ryan Desroche. Stakes action is scheduled for Truro Raceway in Nova Scotia on Thursday night, thus Marc Campbell will not be able to drive his trainee, Freddie, from Post 5 in this week’s installment of the Open Trot. Desroche, a rookie reinsman, has gotten the call to fill the driving void behind the 13-time winner for owners Three Wisemen Stable of Cornwall. Other top entries include Wedgewood (Gary Chappell) from Post 2 and Frill Seeker (Kenny Arsenault) with Post 3.

The first of the CDP’s 12 Thursday dashes is scheduled to kick off at 6:30 p.m.
