Hippodrome Series Kicking Off Tuesday

A field of ten three-year-old trotting colts and geldings are scheduled to headline the opening round of the Breeders Cup Series at the Hippodrome 3R Tuesday evening (July 17).

There will be three preliminary rounds of competition in the Breeders Cup Series. The series will culminate with the top-eight point earners from the series gaining entrance to their respective $65,000 final. The finals will be contested on Super Sunday (September 9).

Ganymede Lavec, last year’s champion, will be looking for another big win. Last season he triumphed in the $55,000 Future Stars final for breeder, owner and driver Jerome Lombart of Bromont, as he pulled off an upset at odds of 17-1.

Trained by Andreane Lapierre, Ganymede Lavec is sired by Ganymede and will start from Post 6 in Race 5.Ganymede Lavec is just getting his season underway, as he will make just his second start of the year on Tuesday.

The race’s early favourite is Nobodysjustce, who will start from Post 4 for driver Guy Gagnon. The gelded son of Justice Hall posted three wins last year, the fastest of which was in 2:00 at Mohawk.

Nobodysjustice has not fared that well this season, as he has yet to win from six starts for trainer Dany Fontaine. Last week he raced in the Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots at Dresden Raceway and was fourth and was race-timed in 2:01.4.

Seeing as though ten starters are set to clash on the half-mile oval, eight of the entrants will put their noses on the starting gate, while the other two will start behind the horses in Post 1 and 2, respectively. Other contenders in the large field include SG Goliath King (PP7), Yankee Photo (PP10) – who is the only return winner in the field, coming off a lifetime best 2:01.1 victory at Saratoga Raceway – and Orlys Fury (PP5).

While the colts have a full field of ten starters, the filly division was not that fortunate. They had only three entered in the opening round and will race in a non-wagering heat between the fourth and fifth races on the program.

Featured is last year’s returning champion, Precieuse CC, from Post 2 for trainer/driver Claude Beausoleil. The daughter of Angus Hall recorded four wins from six starts last year. She has not fared that well in her lone start this season.

The main rival in the race will be Denitza Petrova’s Kinnder Prediction, who will start from Post 1. Montanalaska (PP3) will round out the field.
