Fenwick, Beatty, Hagemeyer, Avenatti Named HHYF Scholarship Recipients

The Harness Horse Youth Foundation is pleased to announce the following scholarship winners.

Mollie Fenwick, 18, of Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania has been named winner of the first annual Sweet Karen Alumni Scholarship. The $1,000 grant goes to an individual who has previously participated in an HHYF Program. The daughter of Harry and Billie Jo Fenwick, Mollie will attend Penn State University, where she will major in Veterinary and Biomedical Science, while minoring in Equine Science and Youth and Family Education.

The Curt Greene Memorial Scholarship will be split by two outstanding students who are scions of top Ohio harness racing families. Rachel Beatty, 18, is the daughter of trainer/driver Hugh Beatty and Sandi Beatty. She graduated from Grove City High School with a 4.46 GPA and will attend Capital University in Columbus, where she will study nursing while staying involved with the family stable.

Lindsay Hagemeyer,, 20, attends the University of Cincinnati studying Psychology and hoping to move on to Vet School. She maintains a 3.5 GPA while remaining actively involved on the 4H Equine Advisory Board which plans horse activities at the Warren County Fair. Her parents, Scott and Cindy Hagemeyer, operate the family's Standarbred Farm and her grandfather, Mel Hagemeyer, is General Manager and Program Director of Lebanon Raceway. Lindsay and Rachel will split a $2,500 stipend.

The $650 MHS scholarship goes to Matt Avenatti. The 18-year-old is the son of David and Karen Avenatti. David is an owner/trainer/driver in Illinois. Matt attended Chrisman High School in Chrisman, Illinois and graduated with a 3.9 GPA. He was also active in the Future Farmers of America. Matt will attend Wabash College in Indiana, where he plans to study Biochemistry
