The iconic team of 10 Budweiser Clydesdales will stable at Hoosier Park Racing & Casino and make two free public appearances next week.
The public appearances will take place on Wednesday, July 15 (beginning at 6 p.m.) and Friday, July 17 (5 p.m.) as part of their visit to Indiana. The appearances are open to all ages and will include opportunities for visitors to participate in photos with the Budweiser team of horses. There will also be a Budweiser beer garden and live music in addition to the regularly scheduled horse racing.
The touring team of Clydesdales were originally a gift from August A. Busch, Jr. and Adolphus Busch to their father in celebration of the repeal of prohibition. The Budweiser Clydesdales made their first appearance in 1933 for the company, have gone on to become the touring ambassadors of Budweiser beer around the world, and were even featured prominently in two presidential inaugurations. The team appeared in Missouri native Harry Truman’s inaugural parade in 1949, and then again for Bill Clinton’s in 1993.
“Hoosier Park Racing & Casino didn’t think twice about opening our facility to these truly amazing horses,” said Becky Young, Hoosier Park’s director of marketing. “We are excited to host what will be two family-friendly events that will welcome both fans of horse racing and the Budweiser Clydesdales.”
The Clydesdale breed was first developed for farm work in the region of Clydesdale, Scotland more than 300 years ago and are most easily recognized for their substantial feather — the long hairs of the lower leg that cover the hooves – in addition to their towering height. Despite their dressy appearance as mascots for Budweiser, they are capable of pulling a 1-ton load at 5 MPH.
