Ormond 'Farny' Farnsworth Passes

Ormond 'Farny' Farnsworth, 87, a lifelong resident of Dresden, Ont., passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Tuesday, June 28 at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA), Public General Campus.

Farny served his community as a volunteer fireman in the Dresden-Camden Fire Dept. for over 40 years. He was a member of Dresden Legion Br. 113, member of the Dresden Agricultural Society, the Ontario Racing Commission and Ontario Harness Horse Association. A veteran owner/trainer/driver and volunteer, Farny was honoured as local Horseman of the Year in 2015 and was inducted into Dresden Raceway's Hall of Fame.

He is survived by his loving wife Vivian (Webster) Farnsworth, son Paul Farnsworth of London, daughter and son-in-law Ann and Patrick Hoffer of London, two grandchildren Ryan and Erin Hoffer, sisters-in-law Eileen Le Patourel, Darlene Lather, Janie Webster and several nieces and nephews. Farny is predeceased by his parents Arguyle and Pearl (Wilder) Farnsworth, his brothers James of Sprucedale and Lloyd of Riverside CA, and his sisters Rheta Russell of St. Catharines, Pearl McKinlay of Blenheim, Dorothy Szasz of Ridgetown, Buella Sherk of St. Catharines, Betty Orchiston of Ridgetown, Helen St. Pierre of Chatham and Jean Keane of Dresden.

Visitors will be received at the Thomas L. DeBurger Funeral Home, 620 Cross St., Dresden on Thursday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., and Saturday at 12 noon to 1 p.m. The funeral service will be conducted from the chapel of the funeral home on Saturday at 1 p.m. with Rev. Brian Horrobin officiating. Interment in Dresden Cemetery. Memorial contributions to CKHA, Kidney Foundation, Dresden Legion or charity of choice.
