The Harness Horse Youth Foundation is offering a unique behind the scenes look at harness racing to teens and their families during the weekend
of September 30- October 2.
The event kicks off with a registration reception and night at the Red Mile races Friday. Saturday, a bus tour of a number of equine facilities including the Hagyard Equine Medical Institute and Fasig-Tipton Sales Pavilion (yearling will be shipping in for Monday's sale) is on tap, followed by a night at the races, including dinner in the Red Mile clubhouse.
The official weekend ends Sunday morning, when Ron Fleishman of Bold Bidder Farm speaks to the group, but daytime racing, featuring the Kentucky Futurity and Drive for Youth Fundraiser, will be held Sunday afternoon. The HHYF is sponsoring a Family Day, which is open to the public, during the Red Mile race card that afternoon.
The registration fee for the weekend is $75 for up to four family members and includes all events, plus a box lunch Saturday and dinner at The Red Mile that night. Families must make their own hotel reservations, but a block of discounted rooms ($99) has been secured at the Springhill Suites in Lexington. Click here for event applications.
"We have had increased demand for programs for teenagers," explains HHYF Executive Director Ellen Taylor, who will host the group. "This is just one more way for us to reach out to entire families who wish to learn more about Standardbreds and harness racing."
The Harness Horse Youth Foundation is a charitable 501(c)3 organization dedicated to providing young people and their families educational opportunities with harness horses, in order to foster the next generation of participants and fans. The Foundation has been making a difference in young people's lives since 1976, and its programs include interactive learning experiences with these versatile animals, scholarship programs, and creation and distribution of educational materials.
