Sabraw Wins Mares & Foals Zoom

Congratulations to Evelyn Sabraw of Acme, Alberta, on winning the I Love Canadian Harness Racing Fan Club’s May Zoom Challenge featuring mares and foals.

Evelyn’s winning shot is of newborn foal Rip It Up (barn name Ripley) cuddling up to his mother Outlaw Blue Danube. He was born Monday, May 8 at 11:20 p.m. and is already known around the barn to be "a bit cheeky!"

Evelyn and her husband Marc have owned retired Standardbreds for many years but when they were offered the opportunity to acquire a broodmare in January of last year, they didn't hesitate.

“We chose Smart Shark as the sire of our first foal and couldn’t be happier with the colt who we watched enter the world,” explained Sabraw.

“He was only two days old when I spent some time sitting in the paddock with my camera watching our hopefully future race horse figure out his legs! Blue was pretty exhausted running after her little explorer and I was able to capture this tender moment with my camera when he finally took a break.”

Sabraw isn’t new to photography challenges; she is a regular contributor to the Fan Club’s annual Heart of Harness Racing Calendar and also enters the Zoom contests monthly. This year one of her great images was chosen as the Heart of Harness Racing’s February image.

Congratulations again to Evelyn who has won a $50 Fan Club prize package, and thank you to everyone who took the time to make submissions, including our other finalists:
