Sunday marked the last day for the Cheering For Charity Drivers to rally up wins in support of Breast Cancer Action Nova Scotia (BCANS) at Truro Raceway.
BCANS hosted a hat-making session on June 22 where they were featured on CTV Morning Live Atlantic. Forty members from BCANS proudly wore their creative hats on Sunday as they cheered their drivers on. They also participated in a tour which included a chance to meet Barona Lilac, who races in support of the SOS Dragon Boat Team for breast cancer survivors and patients.
BCANS will be receiving a donation of total of $450 from the Cheering for Charity Sponsors. A huge thank you goes out to sponsors Meridian Farms, Home Hardware Pictou Road and Willow Street, Lindsay Construction, D.R. Polley Auto Sales, Jims Barber Shop, Pye Chevrolet, and RDMD Refrigeration, as well as to the drivers who have been working extra hard to support the worthwhile causes.
Barona Lilac raised another $176 in the month of June that will be added to her May contribution of $220 to the SOS Dragon Boat Team for a total of $396 donated thus far. 'Lilac' recently received a pin that is displayed on her back pad from breast cancer patient and avid race fan, Suzanne Horne. The pin has a horse head emblem and the quote "She will fight - She will win." On Sunday, Barona Lilac did exactly that as she paced to a new season's best of 1:56.1 and was joined in the winner's circle by many of her fans. Meridian Farms cannot be thanked enough for allowing Barona Lilac to continue giving back in all the ways she does.
