William Loosemore Passes

Standardbred breeder/owner William Elton Loosemore of Lighthouse Cove, Ont. passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, June 22 at the age of 75.

Loosemore was a mainstay of the Dresden-area harness racing industry. Two of his most well known horses were Alittle More Loose and Fourtwenty.

In speaking with Trot Insider, one of William’s daughters, Jill, stated that Alittle More Loose was a mare that spent her entire life with William. The daughter of Meadow Defrank recorded 38 wins, 30 second-place finishes and 26 thirds from her 194 career starts. The brown lass was bred and raised by William and went on to pace to over $142,000 in lifetime earnings.

Fourtwenty was another charge that was special to William. The Big Towner mare was a solid contributor to his operation, as she recorded 21 wins, 19 second-place finishes and 23 thirds throughout her career.

William was born in Petrolia, son of the late Elton and Vera (Leeson) Loosemore. Beloved husband of Elaine (McLachlin) Loosemore. Loving dad to Janice (Ken) Gairdner, Joyce (Jim) Brosseau, James Loosemore (Carolyn Robinet), Jill Loosemore (Phil Belanger). Loving grandfather of Ryan, Royce, Rochelle (Jeremy), Joshua, Jared, Jamey, Michelle, Nicholas, and Justin. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Nancy Evoy, David (Kim) Loosemore, Allen ( Janet) Loosemore, Donna Loosemore, Gary McLachlin, Harold (Debbie) McLachlin, Doug (Judith) McLachlin, Eileen Wagner. Predeceased by a sister Judy Loosemore, brother-in-laws Dale Evoy, Manley McLachlin, Gordon Wagner, and sisters-in-law Shirley McLachlin and Margueritta McLachlin.

The Loosemore family will receive friends at the Badder Funeral Home & Reception Centre, 679 North St., Dresden on Friday, June 24 from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the chapel of the funeral home on Saturday, June 25 at 11:00 a.m. Interment Alvinston Cemetery.
