The board of directors of the Prince Edward Island Standardbred Horse Owners Association (PEISHOA) recently held its monthly meeting, at which time the association’s executive was selected for this year

.

Dr. Colleen Dickie is the new president of the PEISHOA, as she had been serving in the capacity of vice-president for the past several years. She has also been chair of various committees that have proven extremely successful. Dr. Dickie is a well-known equine veterinarian from the Charlottetown Veterinary Clinic, and a graduate of the Atlantic Vet College. She currently makes her home in the Charlottetown area. Over her years in practice, she has had a wide array of experiences and responsibilities, including both small and large animals. Besides her practice on PEI, Dr. Dickie has a clientele in the Truro area that helps serve that racing community.

Along with her professional career, Dr. Dickie has been active as a breeder and owner, and a longtime hands-on participant in race circles.

The PEISHOA very much welcomes Dr. Dickie to her new position as President, and the board looks forward to her leadership and direction in the coming year.

Long-serving board member, Fred Paynter of Kensington steps into the role as Vice-President. Paynter is a resident of Kensington PEI, and has been a very avid participant in the race game in Summerside, Kensington, and Charlottetown. His experiences and contributions to the PEISHOA are many and varied, as he continues to serve on numerous committees.

The association is also pleased that Peter Smith will return as the Treasurer. Smith has helped to successfully guide the PEISHOA on not only a financial basis, but he too has had the experience of being significantly involved and active on most of the committee work, events, and projects organized by the association.

Last, but certainly not least, Betty Gregan resumes the role of Secretary within the group. She takes over the position from Don Dunsford, who recently retired from the board. Gregan is one of the board's veterans, and her contributions over the years cover just about every aspect of the work done by the PEISHOA. Most recently, Gregan was chair of the very successful banquet committee.

This year’s executive is as follows:

President: Dr. Colleen Dickie
Vice President: Fred Paynter
Treasurer: Peter Smith
Secretary: Betty Gregan
Past President: Tom Clark

The board is very fortunate to have such an experienced group of volunteers, and the remaining directors serve in various committee capacities within the PEISHOA, and bring to the table a wide variety of skill sets.

Directors:

Jim Gorman
Gail MacDonald
Vernon MacDonald
Norman Myers
Eldred Nicholson
Lowell Stead
Kerry Taylor (Newly elected)
