Scioto Downs opens its 53rd season of racing on Friday night and will feature weekend racing only this summer

“We’re going with Friday and Saturday nights and Sunday afternoon,” said Stacy Cahill, track general manager. “We think that customers like coming to the races at night when they don’t have to get up the next morning for work. And Sunday afternoon racing should be really special for fans and horsemen.”

Cahill emphasized that Scioto has switched to a four-day entry box this season, so entries for Friday night’s opening card are due on Monday morning.

Horsemen can enter on Tuesday morning for Saturday races and on Wednesday for Sunday races.

“We’re also having holiday programs on Memorial Day, July Fourth, and Labor Day,” says Cahill. “On those days we’ll have the same 1 p.m. post that we have on Sundays.”

This year Scioto Downs will host Ohio Super Night, the championship showdown on the best horses in the Buckeye State. There will be eight championship finals in Ohio Sires Stakes. That is slated for Sept. 10.

The Ohio State Fair stakes will once again be contested at Scioto as well as a full complement of Ohio Sires Stakes for two and three-year-olds.

Leading driver Chris Page will be back in action at Scioto to defend his driving crown while perennial leading trainer Virgil Morgan, Jr. will be represented by a strong stable when racing starts.
