After decimating his foes on opening day, Euchred will team up with one of the region’s top reinsmen as he searches for another preferred victory Saturday evening at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
First race post time is 6:00 P.M. for the 12-dash program with Euchred being saddled with the outside post 6 in the race 11 $2,500 preferred pace for driver Gilles Barrieau, trainer Terry Gallant and owner Kayla Habicht Walker of Inverness, N.S. The six-year-old son of Shadow Play was impressive in his 2018 East Coast debut with a 1:56.2 victory, but race analyst Les MacIsaac looks elsewhere this week to post 3 starter Czar Seelster with Kenny Arsenault at the controls.
“Czar Seelster didn't have the best of trips last week behind stalling, then breaking, cover which forced a three wide move,” MacIsaac said. “We really like the way he kicked home though, and with some better racing luck there could be nothing to stand in his way.”
Other entries include Keep Coming (Driven by Adam Merner), Oh To Be Me (Gary Chappell), Tobinator (Corey MacPherson) and Mr Irresistible (Jason Hughes).
A pair of top rookie pacers from last season will tangle in their 2018 three-year-old debuts in race 4. Maritime Breeders runner-up Tangled Mind will start off his sophomore year from post 6 in that $1,100 event for trainer-driver Gilles Barrieau and will look to add to his $23,000 two-year-old bankroll. Red Dirt Rebel will start as the morning line favourite from post 5 for driver Marc Campbell and trainer Earl Watts with over $15,000 on his papers from his 2017 campaign.
Bugger Max makes his P.E.I. debut in race 12 for the combination of driver Barrieau and trainer Gallant. The winner of over $100,000 last raced in September at Grand River Raceway in Ontario. Bugger Max has drawn post 5 in the $1,500 finale that has Cabo Pan Lucas as the morning line favourite with rail control for driver Danny MacDonald.
