The time has come again to start looking forward to Hanover Raceway’s signature event, the Dream Of Glory Trot.
Although the event has undergone a few changes --- most notably to the purse structure --- Hanover’s top prize for three-year old trotters will once again be dished out on Civic Holiday weekend.
This year there will be no $100,000 purse guarantee, and the final will be contest for a $50,000 (added) purse on August 3. The $10,000 (added) eliminations will be held on July 27.
The connections of a total of 49 horses have made the second payment for this year’s edition of the Dream Of Glory, including a number of familiar names from last year’s Balanced Image and the Ontario Sires Stakes grassroots series.
Among the notable names on this year’s list of eligible sophomores is 2012 Balanced Image champion colt P C Dream Ticket, as well as elimination winners Eat Pray Trot and Ballykeel Pegasus. Locally, Charlie Ward of Hanover will look for Dewer Kash to improve on a fairly strong rookie season. There are also a number of talented fillies in the group of Dream Of Glory hopefuls. Among them, Random Majority and former Grand River Raceway divisional record holder Standing My Ground will look to upset the boys. Roger Gebhardt of Hanover will hope to send I Am Special in the eliminations at his hometown track as well.
