General Accountant Position Available

Standardbred Canada is an incorporated non-profit association and is the National Registry for harness racing in Canada. We maintain and manage all pedigree and racing data for all Standardbreds in Canada. We promote and support the industry by offering informational equine news and services for our members and race fans through a national magazine, website and excellent customer service and are recognized as one of the largest, best organized authorities on equine matters.

Standardbred Canada is seeking a General Accountant to work within our Accounting Department reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO). This is a very hands-on position working with the full accounting cycle from payment receipts through reconciliation within a small team.

Responsibilities:

  • Process and reconcile daily/monthly payments receipts

  • Completes Accounts Payable and Receivable activities as required

  • Reconciling bank statements, completing journal entries and reconciling accounts.

  • Reconciliation of accounts monthly and year end closing

  • Maintenance of the Accpac Accounting System.

  • Complete administrative functions within the department such as cheque printing, scanning and filing.

  • Make and receive calls from members or vendors respective to their accounts

  • Completing analysis and preparing reports as required

  • Identify and implement process efficiencies

  • Assists with administration of Standardbred Canada’s benefit and insurance programs, providing guidance toboth employees and members

  • Maintains employee confidence maintaining the highest level of confidentiality.

  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned

Core skills and experience:

  • Education in Accounting at a college or university level

  • Accounting designation an asset

  • 5 years experience in a professional environment

  • Knowledge of the Standardbred Industry is considered an asset

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel

  • Knowledge of Accpac Accounting systems

  • Ability to work with minimum supervision

  • Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality

  • Ability to prioritize projects and work efficiently under pressure with careful attention to detail

  • Ability to work flexible schedule to meet deadlines and during busy work periods
