Live harness racing returns to the Peterborough area this weekend as Kawartha Downs kicks off its 46th season on Saturday (May 26).
While the future of the racetrack beyond 2018 remains uncertain, management with the track is committed to the 18 dates of racing they were awarded earlier this year.
"I have the full commitment of the local community that we will make this year the best year ever despite all the difficulties and financial shortcomings that come with it," Orazio Valente, general manager at Kawartha Downs told the Peterborough Examiner earlier this month.

A paddock meeting with the judges will take place this weekend at Kawartha Downs before the races. All racing participants are encouraged to attend.
Just a reminder, the track is open for training on Mondays (from 8 a.m. to noon), Wednesdays (8 a.m. 6 p.m.) and on Thursdays (8 a.m. to noon).
Schoolers will be held on Wednesdays until June 13. Please note there will not be schoolers or training on race days.
