Pocono’s Derby Day Details

The symptoms are puzzling: flushed cheeks, racing pulses, hearts beating a little faster, and breathing that is a little quicker than normal. Could it be? It’s ‘Derby fever,’ and it has hit Northeast PA in a big way with the Kentucky Derby just days away.

The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono has the biggest party planned, with doors open at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 5 and a double-header of live harness racing with first post 11:00 a.m. Elegant dining is available in Pacer’s Clubhouse with the sumptuous Champagne Brunch from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., and reservations are still available. The dinner seating is currently sold out.

A souvenir photo booth will be in the lobby with a $1 suggested donation per person, with all proceeds to the Standardbred Retirement Foundation, helping retired racehorses. Trackside and patio bars, as well as food will be available, including Mint Juleps in souvenir glasses!

Registration for the Run For the Roses Hat Revue is from 3:30 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. in the lobby with judging promptly at 5:30 p.m. outside in front of the Winner’s Circle. All hats must be registered, and there will be cash prizes in five categories with a panel of celebrity judges, including driver Simon Allard. Ladies in need of a last-minute hat, fascinator, or accessory can stop by the Spa Sapphire Boutique in the lobby to purchase.

Of course, all the excitement of Kentucky Derby 144 will be shown on the jumbo screen; in Simulcast; and in Pacer’s Clubhouse!

Fans are encouraged to get here early and enjoy the all-day festivities, and stay late for the second half of the double-header of live harness racing, which includes a spectacular card.

Plenty of seating is available on the patio and apron, and self-parking and admission is free.

Advance wagering is available on Friday, May 4.
