Trot Insider has learned that Standardbred horse owner and horse racing enthusiast Frank Basso Sr. recently passed away.

Basso was one of a kind and loved the business as a fan, gambler and owner. He got involved in horse ownership back in the mid 1970s with trainer Kent Baker (in the Arochar Mist days) with one of his first horses being his fondest and best in free for all trotter Johnny Jumpup. Vasso went on to own numerous horses over the years.

Over the years the Bassos also moved into managing and training their own stable, as Frank teamed up with his sons Paul and Frank Jr., who eventually broke into driving scene and was named rookie of the year at Flamboro.

The last horse that Frank Basso Sr. owned and trained was trotter Incredible FX. Basso would still tag along when his son, Paul, would head out to Mohawk the odd time.

Please join Standardbred Canada in offering condolences to the family and friends of Frank Basso Sr.
