George Ross Passes

Seventy-four-year-old George Daniel Ross of the United States Trotting Association passed away on March 28 at the Selma Markowitz Hospice Center in Newark, Ohio.

He was born April 27, 1940, in Newark, Ohio, the son of Albert A. Ross and Cora Lee (Baker) Ross-Evans.

Ross was a service technician with the United States Trotting Association and served with the United States Navy during the Formosa Straits Crisis.

He was a lifetime member of the VFW, an avid coin collector and a skilled handyman. He enjoyed outdoor activities such as gardening, camping and fishing. He spent countless hours helping and caring for others. Together with his wife, Margaret, they enjoyed line dancing, square dancing and walks with their canine companion, Sophie.

Ross is survived by his wife of 55 years, Margaret; daughter, Teresa (James) Lemley; son, Rodney (Rhonda); grandchildren, Jeremy (Tomitha) Zimmerman, Cameron, Michael Lemley and Megan Lemley; four great-grandchildren; brother, John; sisters, Mary ‘Cookie’ Ford and Ruthie (Larry) Dugan; as well as nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, an infant sister, Donna, preceded him in death.

At his request, no public services will be observed.

Memorial contributions to the American Red Cross, an organization that he whole-heartedly supported and was a lifetime donor, are suggested by the family.
