Trot Insider has compiled a list of all the reminders that have been sent out relating to stakes payments and industry deadlines which are coming due on and around March 15.

Standardbred Canada would like to remind owners/trainers that stakes payments are due on March 15, 2014.

Stakes payments can be paid with debit or credit card using SC Stakes Online. A video tutorial is available to help you get started.

Since the due date falls on a weekend, envelopes must be clearly post-marked on or before Monday, March 17 to be accepted, despite inadequacies of the postal system.

OSS 2YO Payments Due March 15

Owners of Ontario Sires Stakes-eligible two-year-olds are reminded that March 15 is the deadline for the two-year-old OSS sustaining payment. However, since the 15th falls on a Saturday this year, payments postmarked by Monday, March 17 will be accepted.

WEG’s March 17 Stakes Payments Approaching

Nominations for Woodbine Entertainment Group’s major stakes events, including the $685,000 (Est.) Metro Pace, $630,000 (Est.) Canadian Pacing Derby and $550,000 (Est.) Maple Leaf Trot close Monday, March 17.

Also, three-year-old Ontario-sired fillies have a sustaining payment for the 2014 WEG SBOA stakes events.

Two-year-olds have sustaining payments due for the 2014 Champlain Open and Champlain Fillies, as well as sustaining payments to be eligible as three-year-olds to the 2015 Simcoe Open, Simcoe Fillies and SBOA.

If sending nominations by mail, envelopes must be clearly post-marked no later than the said due date or payment will not be accepted. Registered mail is recommended.

Prix D’Ete Nominations Due March 17

The Quebec Jockey Club would like to remind all concerned that the nominations for the Prix D’Ete, the richest pacing event for four-year-olds in North America this year, are due by March 15.

But, according to the rule 159 of Regie des alcools, des courses et des jeux (Quebec racing commission), “when the closing date for nominations or payment of sustaining fees is a Saturday or non-juridical day, it shall be postponed to the following juridical day.”

The Prix D’Ete will be raced on September 21 at Hippodrome 3R with a guaranteed purse of $200,000 in the final and $50,000 in consolation.

Red Mile Sustaining Payments and Nominations Due March 17

The March payments for several Red Mile Grand Circuit races must be postmarked by Monday, March 17. These payments include several sustaining payments for 3-year-olds including:

Bluegrass #39 est. $200,000: The Red Mile on 9/27 (Pacers) and 9/28 (Trotters)

Kentucky Futurity #122 est. $600,000 and Filly Futurity est. $350,000: The Red Mile on 10/5

Tattersalls est. $600,000 and Glen Garnsey est. $350,000: Red Mile on 10/4

There are several payments due for 2-year-olds:

Meadowlands’ March Payment Reminder

The Meadowlands wishes to remind horsemen that a number of Meadowlands stakes have sustaining payments due by March 15. However, since the 15th falls on a Saturday this year, payments postmarked by Monday (March 17) will be accepted.

Also, the Meadowlands Pace for foals of 2012 requires a two-year-old nomination payment of $400 due by March 15 to make those horses eligible to race in the 2015 ‘Pace.’

The two-year-old payment will permit a 30 per cent reduction to the sustaining payments required next year at age three to continue eligibility to the Pace.

PASS Payments Due March 15

The Pennsylvania Harness Racing Commission today reminded standardbred horse owners that 2014 Sire Stakes payments for two-year-old and three-year-old horses are due by March 15.

The first payment of $150 for the Pari Mutuel Division and $25 for the Fair Division is due for two-year-olds. A final payment of $500 for the Pari Mutuel Division is due for three-year-olds.

Changes To Ohio Sire Stakes – Payments Due March 15

After a presentation by program administrator Joe Crugnale during its monthly meeting in Columbus on January 23, the Ohio State Racing Commission approved the Ohio Sire Stakes program for 2014.

Crugnale told the commission it would be a year of change and growth, both in purses and participation. The biggest changes are the movement of the deadline to nominate from February 15 to March 15, and the elimination of the April 15 sustaining payment.

March Payments Due For Indiana Stakes

Friday, March 15 is the nomination payment deadline for Indiana Sires Stakes (three-year-olds & older), Indiana-Sired Fair Circuit (three-year-olds), Maple City Trot (three-year-old pacers), Classic Pace (three-year-old trotters) and Indiana-Sired Late Closers IS-1 through IS-8.

Since the payment deadline of the March 15 falls on a Saturday, payments must be postmarked no later than March 17 in order to nominate your horse(s) to these events.

Hollywood Gaming At Dayton Raceway Issues March 15 Payment Reminder

Nominations for a pair of new Grand Circuit races at the brand new Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway five-eighths mile oval this fall are due March 15.

The Open events for four-year-old and older pacers and trotters, presently named the Dayton Pacing Derby and the Dayton Trotting Derby, have purses estimated at $100,000 in the track’s inaugural season in southeast Ohio.

The races are scheduled for the evening of Friday, October 24.

The Hambletonian Society is servicing these new events and complete conditions can be found at their website.

Tioga & Vernon Issue March Payments Reminder

Tioga & Vernon Downs remind horsemen that stakes administered by those tracks have nomination and sustaining payments due by March 15. However, since the 15th falls on a Saturday this year, payments postmarked by Monday (March 17) will be accepted.

Those payments include the Empire Breeders Classic sustaining payments on the foals of 2012 that will race as three-year-olds this year; nomination payment for this year’s two-year-olds to race in the 2105 edition, and stallions that bred mares in New York during the 2012 season to make their foals of 2013 eligible to the 2016 race.

The Kindergarten Trotting Classic for freshman in 2014 and the complete slate of stakes for older horses also have a March 15 nomination.

OBC, Delaware Open Series Payments Due March 15

The Delaware County Fair has announced a change to the payment schedules for the Ohio Breeders Championships and the Delaware Open series.

The $400,000 est. Ohio Breeders Championships now require a single $300 nomination payment due March 15, 2014 with no further sustaining payments required.

The single $300 payment replaces a pair of $200 payments required in previous years. The starting fee of $750 remains in effect.

The Delaware Open series is also going with the single $150 nominating payment due March 15, 2014. The starting fee for the Delaware Open series is $200.

“The landscape of Ohio racing is changing and we thought we should make some changes to the payment schedules as well,” noted Tom Wright, Director of Racing. “The Ohio owners have been very supportive of our race program and this change is a way to thank them for that support.”

The payment changes are in keeping with the recently announced changes to the Ohio Sires Stakes and the Ohio State Fair Stakes.

Northfield Adds Multiple Claiming Series; Payments Due March 15

Northfield Park has announced the dates of six “Hard Rockin’ Claiming Series” set for this spring.

“These new late closers are just part of the increased opportunities offered here at Northfield,” said Dave Bianconi, Executive Vice President of Racing and Simulcasting. “As our purses increase, we would like to fill more straight claiming races. These series will give claimers a real opportunity to race for solid purses in each leg and a big money final.”

Mondays (March 31, April 7 and April 14) will host the Hall Of Fame Series, for $8,000 claiming trotters, and The Legend Series, for $8,000 claiming pacers. Each of the three legs will carry purses of $6,500.

Tuesdays (April 1, April 8 and April 15) will offer the Icon Series for $4,000 claiming pacers. Each leg will be raced for a $4,000 purse.

Wednesdays (April 2, April 9 and April 16) highlight the Juke Box Hero Series, for $4,000 claiming trotters. Each of these legs will also carry a $4,000 purse.

Thursdays (April 3, April 10 and April 17) will feature the Diva Series, for fillies and mares $4,000 claiming pacers, offering purses of $4,000. Also on those nights, The Prima Donna Series, for fillies and mares $8,000 claiming pacers, will offer purses of $6,500.

The finals of all six series will be raced on Friday (April 25) on the undercard of the $100,000 (gtd) Courageous Lady, the first Grand Circuit stakes event of 2014 for three year-old filly pacers. The finals of The Hall of Fame, The Legend and The Prima Donna Series will carry purses of $20,000 (gtd). The Icon, The Juke Box Hero and The Diva Series finals will race for $15,000 (gtd).

A one-time $100 payment will be required of each entrant to be eligible. Payments are due by March 15. Exact conditions for the series are available here.


Stakes Payments for the Delaware (OH) Events Due March 15

Two-year-old sustaining payments for the 70th edition of the Little Brown Jug, the 45th Jugette, the 63rd Old Oaken Bucket (three-year-old open trot) and the 64th Buckette (three-year-old filly trot) are due March 15. These payments are for foals of 2012 and will be raced in 2015.

Sustaining payments are also due for the 75th Standardbred two-year-old colt and filly stakes for foals of 2012 to be raced in 2014.

The $400,000 est. Ohio Breeders Championships now require a single $300 nomination payment due March 15, 2014 with no further sustaining payments required.

The Delaware Open series is also going with the single $150 nominating payment due March 15, 2014.

Finally, late nomination fee of $500 for the Winbak Farm Pace for four-year-olds and up to be contested on September 18, 2014, is due March 15.

The 2013 Delaware Grand Circuit meet opens Sunday, September 14 and will continue Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. There will be no racing on Monday, September 15.

March Deadline For Hambletonian Society-Serviced Stakes Approaching

March sustaining and nominating payments for Hambletonian Society stake events are due Saturday, March 15 and per USTA Rule 12 section 4, must be postmarked by midnight on Monday, March 17.

Changes to the March 15 payment schedule include an increase in the Breeders Crown future eligibility payment from $350 to $500 and the first of three payments for a pair of $100,000 (est.) open events for both gaits at Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway.

The Hambletonian Society services 137 of harness racing’s richest and most prestigious events and provides one-stop shopping for your staking needs. The website Hambletonian.org contains all the tools and information necessary to stake your horse yourself.

All forms are available on the web site and are PDF fillable. Race conditions, payment forms and much more information are now available online, as well as eligibility lists for races that had a final payment on Feb. 15, 2014.
