Georgian Downs is set to lift the curtain on its 105-day racing season with a full program on Tuesday
evening.
The Innisfil, Ontario oval completed the draw for its opening night card earlier today and will field 12 competitive dashes on Tuesday evening, headlined by a pair of $9,500 conditioned events.
Home to some of Canada’s top racing events, Georgian Downs will feature a $2.5-million stakes program in 2011 including the 3rd renewal of the $500,000 Upper Canada Cup, the $400,000 Masters Stakes and the $200,000 Earl Rowe Memorial Cup.
“We’ve been working with our local horsepeople to develop a lineup of exciting high level events, plus a lucrative stable of overnight series,” said Chris Roberts, Director of Racing Operations. “We’ve confirmed that on top of our headline events, six in-house series will be returning with a collective value of more than $200,000. I look forward to making some additional announcements in the coming weeks. We’re going to have some exciting news about overnight stakes this fall.”
Spanning a 10-month season, the meet runs through the end of December and will distribute more than $11-million in purse funds. Dates to mark on your calendar include: May 28, Upper Canada Cup; July 9, Georgian Gold Rush; and August 27, Xtreme Horsepower.
Georgian Downs races on Tuesday and Saturday evenings through the end of the year with a post time of 7:25 pm. Wednesday evenings are added to the calendar from October through December, and for the month of October alone, Sunday evening cards are added with a post time of 6:00 pm.
