Paul ‘Porky’ Johnson Sr. Passes

Paul M. ‘Porky’ Johnson Sr., of Ironton, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, February 17 at his residence at the age of 79.

The Ironton native was born August 22, 1938 to the late Asa Morris and Catherine Hurst Johnson.

Porky attended Hanging Rock School and was an iron pourer for the Dayton Malleable for more than 20 years.

He was also a member of the USTA. As a trainer for owner Bob Henry, Porky conditioned such standouts as world champion Direct Pay p, 2, 2:01.4h; 3, 1:55f; 4, 1:52.1f ($288,622) and Keystone Reno p, 3, 1:55.4h; 1:52.3f ($153,209). He also served as a second trainer for Jim Arledge Sr. and helped send out multiple Ohio Sire Stakes champions.

In addition to his parents, Porky was preceded in death by a stepson, Tommy Pinkerman, and two sisters, Ann Riley and Mary Bryant.

Porky is survived by a son, Paul M. Johnson Jr.; daughters Helen Ferguson and Trina Pulver; stepdaughters Paula Hart, Judy Hart, Melinda Johnson, and Melissa Johnson; brother Alfred Johnson; sister Sandy Wheaton; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; and special friend Teri Norris.

There will be a private service at the convenience of the family.
