Charles ‘Bill’ Smith Passes

Charles W. ‘Bill’ Smith, 78, of Gambier, Ohio, passed away on Sunday (February 19).

Born on December 19, 1938, Smith was the son of the late George and Mamie (Shoults) Smith, who resided in Knox County.

Smith was a longtime owner/breeder/trainer/driver of Standardbreds, and was a member of both the United States Trotting Association and the Knox County Horsemen's Association.

He also graduated from Gambier High School in 1956, where he starred on six-man football team. In fact, he scored 22 touchdowns as a freshman fullback.
