Delaware County Fair Announces Changes

The Board of Directors of the Delaware County Agricultural Society voted on Tuesday, February 19 to separate the positions of Fair Manager for the Delaware County Fair and the Manager of Marketing for the Little Brown Jug.

Phil Terry, who has held both positions since July 2008 will serve exclusively as the Manager of Marketing for the Little Brown Jug beginning March 1. The Executive Committee of the fair board will appoint an interim director and will immediately begin the search for the new fair manager, a process that is expected to take six to eight weeks.

“The Delaware County Fair is a year round operation with 170 acres, over 60 barns and structures and 15 employees,” noted Al Myers, President of the Delaware County Agricultural Society. “We combined the two roles back in 2008 and we felt that now was a perfect time to once again have a separate fair manager and manager of marketing.”

Terry, who was selected as the 2010 LBJ Wall of Fame honouree, was instrumental in the creation of the Lavern Hill Jugette Barn, the track’s three hospitality pavilions and the LBJ future wager. Terry has served as the LBJ’s Manager of Marketing since 1998.

“While I have enjoyed my five years as the Fair Manager, I realize how hard it is to dedicate enough time to both roles,” commented Terry. “There are many positive changes coming to the harness racing industry in the state of Ohio and the Little Brown Jug needs to be at the forefront of those changes. The Jug is a very unique event to promote and I look forward to being able to devote all of my time toward marketing and sponsorship development. Much of my efforts will be directed to bringing companies and individuals in from outside of Delaware County.”

“Phil loves the Little Brown Jug,” added Tom Wright, President of the Little Brown Jug Society. “His dedication to our community, the sport and the Jug cannot be matched. With this change Phil will now be able to focus 100 percent of his attention to making Delaware the greatest stop on the Grand Circuit.”

The 2013 Delaware County Fair will run from Saturday, September 14 through Saturday, September 21. The 68th edition of the Little Brown Jug will be raced on Thursday, September 19.
