Walter Young Passes

Horseman Walter E. Young of Barnesville, Ohio passed away on February 17 at Emerald Pointe Nursing and Rehab at the age of 95.

He was born July 24, 1919, in Sarahsville, Ohio, to the late Frank and Rebecca VanDyne (Kirkbride) Young. He was baptized as a Presbyterian.

Young was a member of the Olive Lodge #210 F&AM of Mt. Ephraim, Ohio and the USTA. He retired from RCA Corp. in Cambridge, Ohio, in 1958.

Young owned and trained Standardbreds for more than 65 years. He drove and won his first race in 1945.

He is survived by a daughter, Sandra (Frederick) Meczka; grandchildren, Russell (Kim), Brett (Jen) Meczka and Barra Terrigno; and three great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Mae; daughter, Linda D.; brothers, Delbert Clayton, Geroge William, Donald Charles, James Carliss and Robert Myron; and sisters, Madelyn Joy Dickerson and Opal Simms.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 20 from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at 2 p.m. with Pastor Bob Merritt officiating at Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 North Chestnut St., Barnesville, OH. Burial will follow at Crestview Cemetery in Barnesville, Ohio.
