Do you think your Standardbred has what it takes to be a cover boy or cover girl? The Raceway at Western Fair District hopes to find out this holiday season.
In conjunction with an already busy month of live racing over the holidays in December, The Raceway is launching its first ever online Christmas Photo contest with the winning submission to be featured on the 2018 Boxing Day program cover.
Horse people are invited to get into the Christmas spirit by submitting their best ‘horse themed’ Christmas photo on or before December 26th. A panel of judges will then select the Grand Prize winner to be announced during The Raceway’s New Year’s Eve program on Sunday, December 31st. Fans will also have a chance to vote for the ‘People’s Choice’ on the The Raceway’s Facebook contest page with the winner to receive a Raceway prize package. The photos will be judged on creativity, originality, humour and the seasonal theme.
The contest will open this Friday, December 8th and there are a variety of ways to submit your photo including:
a) Submit your photo to our contest page on Facebook to be considered for the People’s choice slot. Raceway fans will be able to vote on their favourite photos and you will be able to share your photo to your Facebook friends to encourage voting!
b) Post your photo on your Instagram, Twitter or Facebook and use the hashtag #Racewaycover
c) Submit your photo (or scan of your photo) via email to [email protected]
d) Mail your photo to:

The Raceway will also team up with long time industry partner Wilson Tack to present Christmas In The Paddock on Saturday, December 23rd, which is the final program prior to Christmas, featuring a special 1:15 p.m. post time.
All horse people racing that week (December 18, 19, 22 and 23) will have a chance to fill out a ballot for one of the many prizes to be drawn on the December 23rd program.
Fans are reminded that in addition to that program, The Raceway also features live racing on December 26 (Boxing Day) at 1:15 p.m., December 29 at 7:05 p.m., December 31 (New Year’s Eve) at 7:05 p.m. and January 1 (New Year’s Day) at 6:15 p.m. Seats at the Top Of The Fair are going quickly for both the Boxing Day Brunch and New Year’s Eve Buffet.
