Ruby Bird Euthanized

Jonalee Farm has announced that Scarlett Skipper mare Ruby Bird has been euthanized at the age of 31.

Ruby Bird p, 2, 1:59 ($29,581) was not a ‘great’ racehorse, nor was she a ‘great’ producer, but she was at best a great mother to several crops of yearlings raised at Jonalee Farm. Her impact on the lives of Jon and Leeanna Wiesman was immense, to say the least.

Ruby Bird made just under $30,000 as a two-year-old in 1987. The Weismans took the profits and purchased four lifetime breedings in Balance Image; and the profits earned from the sale of his breeding over the next 12 years became the seed money for their farm and other businesses. For that reason, the Wiesmans will be forever indebted to her.

Ruby Bird lived to the grand old age of 31 and was euthanized on Nov. 22, which was one day before the couple’s 31st wedding anniversary.

Please join Standardbred Canada in offering condolences to the connection of Ruby Bird.

What a great life she had with you and you with her. We never hear about the non-stars but we love them sometimes more than the big stars because we can keep them at home with us. Hope you find another Ruby.

I am sorry to hear of the loss of your mare, Ruby Bird. Sounds like she had a great life at Jonalee Farm. While she might not have became a "star" on the racetrack, she remains a "star" to you. I am glad to read she enjoyed her whole life with you.
